Today would be the 126th birthday of one of the godfathers of Modern design – Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Through his many designs from furniture, to residential homes, commercial buildings & skyscrapers – Mies sought to re-invent they way people interacted with each other & the spaces around them. Quite the dapper gent, Mies was known for his finely tailored suits & big cigars – and much like his appearance, he strived to pay special attention to the fine detailing & the craftsmanship of his buildings. Stripping his buildings of unnecessary ornamentation, he created one of our favorite design philosophies that ‘less is more’ through creating a ‘skin & bones’ style that allowed his internal spaces to be open & free of clutter. Mies is one of our biggest influences and we just wanted to share some images from his amazing body of work. Happy Birthday Mies. Below are some links to one of our favorite websites, ARCHDAILY who have some great write ups on Mies’ work.
